Erik Bretos says Real Sociedad are talking to Pellegrino Matarazzo about extending his deal, stressing the club are happy with him and expressing confidence they can count on him as coach in future.

According to Diario Vasco, the director of football addressed the subject during his Friday appearance and said Matarazzo is content with the situation.

Matarazzo took charge in December on an 18-month contract. His current agreement runs until 30 June 2027, leaving one year remaining.

Bretos said belief in Matarazzo has grown in recent months, despite a finish to the season that fell short of expectations. The coach ended the campaign frustrated with the team’s performance, a feeling shared by players and staff.

He added that the side struggled to reconnect after the Copa del Rey final and that the level shown in Seville was not seen again. The club, he said, must acknowledge what happened, study it and improve, because they want consistency.
