Erika eyes quick adaptation, historic Corinthians World Cup win

The Corinthians women's team is already in London to compete in the FIFA Women's Champions Cup, a tournament that marks the debut of women's football in an intercontinental club format. The alvinegra delegation landed in London last Wednesday, and the team is eager to fight for an unprecedented title in the club's history.

One of the most experienced players on the squad, defender Erika, commented on the moment the Brabas are experiencing and the preparation for the competition. In an interview with Meu Timão at the airport, during the departure to England, the defender spoke about the short period for adjustments before the World Cup.

“We had little time (to prepare). Of course, we would have liked to have more vacation days, but unfortunately, we couldn't. At the same time that they say we have vacation, we have to train, try to run, go to the gym, do something to be a little more prepared. Now it was really intense, with training and everything else, so that we could arrive a bit more conditioned to go head-to-head with the girls who are already there,” the defender commented.

Even in the face of logistical difficulties and a tight schedule, Erika reinforced her confidence in the Corinthians group, which arrives on a high after another season of national and continental achievements.

“We know the potential we have. We're talking about a World Cup, we're going to play against great teams, but we have to do our part too. And I think that sometimes this hits us a little and makes us wonder: ‘Are we really prepared for this?’ But, whether we are or not, we're going, so we have to do our best to be well conditioned there,” she added.

To ensure greater comfort during the international trip, Corinthians organized the journey in two separate flights, allowing athletes and members of the coaching staff to travel in business class. The second group was welcomed by members of Fiel Londres, who were at the airport to encourage the team before the start of the competition.

For transporting materials, the delegation also required special logistics. Part of the luggage was reserved exclusively for training and game equipment, but according to Erika, there was room for something extra in the suitcase.

“Of course, there's a little space inside the suitcase for the trophy, and we're going to bring it back no matter what. We have to keep in mind that we have to bring this title home. We've waited a long time for this, right? Everyone is anxious. Let me push the suitcase, let me enjoy this moment (laughs),” joked the defender, who recently renewed her contract with the club until 2027.

Corinthians debuts in the Champions Cup on January 28, at 9:30 am (Brasília time), against Gotham FC from the United States, in London, England.
