L'Équipe reports that Erling Haaland’s camp and Manchester City have rejected claims of any agreement with Real Madrid after Enrique Riquelme raised the prospect during his presidential campaign.

The only challenger to Florentino Pérez, Riquelme said on Wednesday night that a deal was in place. On Antena 3’s El Hormiguero he produced a Real Madrid shirt bearing Haaland’s name and number nine.

He argued the striker has a release clause and wants the move, and vowed to cover 100% of next season’s dues for 100,000 socios if he was lying.

Soon after, a joint message from Alfie Haaland and agent Rafaela Pimenta dismissed the scenario as entertaining but false, and wished both candidates well in the Madrid election.

On Thursday morning City added that reports from Spain about Haaland’s future were wrong, that there was no chance of it happening and no clause allowed it. The club also reserved the right to pursue legal action over misuse of the player’s image.

Riquelme also cited Rodri as an ideal signing during his appearance.
