Estéban Lepaul, Ligue 1’s reigning top scorer with 21 goals, enters a season to back it up with Europe in his sights and, perhaps, a France call-up.
According to L'Équipe, Stade Rennais president Arnaud Pouille extended Lepaul’s deal from 2029 to 2030 this summer. The late-blooming 26-year-old is set to begin the new campaign unless a huge offer arrives.
On 17 May, after the final day in Marseille ended 1-3, Lepaul said becoming top scorer was a major honour that should not be trivialised. He added that it is on him now to deliver in Europe to reach the next step.
Despite his rise, he remains relatively new to the elite, with only one and a half Ligue 1 seasons behind him. The humility stays, coupled with clear ambition.
European nights will test that status. If he maintains his level, perhaps the France squad will follow.
