Estevao Willian sent a message to Chelsea’s “incredible” fans after hitting two goals in a commanding win for Brazil.
The 18-year-old star scored either side of the break on Friday as Carlo Ancelotti’s Selecao thrashed South Korea 5-0 in a friendly in Seoul.
It came less than a week after the winger produced stoppage-time heroics to help Chelsea to a crucial 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Premier League.
Estevao is becoming an increasingly important player for his new club, as well as a reliable source of goals for Ancelotti, with his double in Seoul coming a month after he struck his first senior Brazil goal in a World Cup qualifier against Chile.
Estevao was asked how much he is enjoying the support of Chelsea’s fans since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Palmeiras following the Club World Cup in the summer.
“It’s incredible”, he said. “In the last game, when I was warming up, you could feel that people expect something from me. I’m very happy about that.
“I try to repay it on the field and make them proud. I can see how much they value me and want me there. My feeling is that I can’t let them down, I want to help and make them proud.”
He added: “On the pitch, things are going well. I’m adapting faster than I expected to the Premier League, to [Chelsea head coach Enzo] Maresca’s style and to European football.
“I’m not 100 per cent adapted yet, but definitely more than I imagined. I’m happy to be playing for a big club in Europe.”
Real Madrid duo Rodrygo (two) and Vinicius Jr scored Brazil's other three goals against South Korea, and there were assists for Premier League stars Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle and Manchester United pair Matheus Cunha and Casemiro.
With World Cup qualification secured and the CONMEBOL campaign over, Ancelotti’s side now move on to Japan for another friendly at the Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo on Tuesday.
