Liverpool slipped to second in the Premier League as Chelsea claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge, handing the Reds a third consecutive defeat.
The hosts made the brighter start, with Moisés Caicedo capitalising on some loose Liverpool midfield play.
The Ecuadorian midfielder unleashed a stunning 25-yard shot that flew into the top corner past Giorgi Mamardashvili, giving the hosts an early lead.
Arne Slot's men threatened an instant response, with Dominik Szoboszlai’s shot blocked superbly by Benoît Badiashile, and Alejandro Garnacho’s curling effort clipped the outside of the post before half-time, leaving the score at 1-0.
Florian Wirtz was introduced at the break to add fresh attacking options, and Liverpool gradually grew into the game. Their efforts were rewarded shortly after the hour when Cody Gakpo capitalised on Alexander Isak’s flick inside the box to fire home and level the scores.
Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch both came close, but Chelsea’s defence and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez kept the visitors at bay.
The decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time. Marc Cucurella delivered a low cross to the far post, where Brazilian youngster Estêvão slid in to score his first goal for the club, sealing a dramatic win for the Blues.
The win boosts Chelsea’s confidence as they head into the international break, while Liverpool are left to ponder defensive frailties and missed opportunities, dropping behind Arsenal in the title race.
