Ethan McLeod, 21, Macclesfield forward dies after M1 crash returning from Bedford | OneFootball

Macclesfield forward Ethan McLeod has died aged 21 after a car crash on the M1 while travelling home from an away game at Bedford on Tuesday night, 16 December.

The club said in a statement that he was returning from Bedford Town when the collision occurred and paid tribute to a talented, respected team-mate whose personality endeared him to everyone.

McLeod joined Macclesfield in the summer after a successful trial. He spent a decade in Wolverhampton Wanderers' academy and had signed professional terms before leaving in September 2024.

Wolves will hold a minute's silence before Saturday's Premier League fixture against Brentford. His younger brother Conor is in Wolves' under-21 squad and the club will support him and the family.

The Professional Footballers' Association also paid tribute and sent condolences to his family, friends, team-mates and loved ones.
