Sunderland forward Ethan Moore says he has moved on mentally and physically from a long-term knee injury as he builds minutes on loan at National League Gateshead. The 21-year-old joined in January and is helping a survival push.
“I am definitely moving towards where I want to be. The thing with a big injury is it’s more mental than physical when you are coming back. I feel like I’ve moved on mentally and physically now and I’m just looking forwards.” He was speaking to Sunderland Echo.
Moore suffered a serious knee injury in March 2023 and spent most of the next two years in rehabilitation. After 887 days out he returned for Sunderland Under-21s in August, replacing Felix Scott in a 3-2 defeat at Southampton.
He played 17 times in the first half of the campaign, then joined Gateshead in January to continue his progress. The forward has seven appearances under Rob Elliot, most recently off the bench in Tuesday’s 3-1 home win over York City.
He is into the final weeks of his Sunderland contract and wants to show his value. “I just want to play as many minutes as I can and show everyone what I can do.”
This Saturday is Non-League Day, with Yeovil visiting the International Stadium. The Gateshead FC Supporters Society are targeting 2,000, with ticket prices cut by up to 20%. “We need that support here because we still have a lot of work to do so it would be great to see supporters getting down here on Saturday and getting behind us.”
