Abu Dhabi airline Etihad, Manchester City's principal partner and naming-rights sponsor at the Etihad Stadium, said in a Thursday statement that the Premier League's handling of the case had caused harmful repercussions for the company.

It criticised the league after it found the club guilty of serious financial breaches, and signalled it was considering legal options.

The shirt sponsor categorically rejected any assertion, conclusion or insinuation that it had been involved in irregular commercial agreements.

Etihad expressed regret at not being consulted during the process, over information that led to conclusions that could be interpreted as prejudicial to the airline.

It voiced deep concern over how the case was communicated to the public, arguing that a lack of clarity and transparency, together with selective disclosure, had harmed the company.

The company said the Premier League should take responsibility, and that it would seek advice from qualified legal counsel on options and remedies to protect its interests.
