Could this become the best season in our club’s history? One more win away at SC Freiburg on matchday 34 would see RB Leipzig set a new club-record points tally.
Here are the key facts ahead of the game.
A year ago, RB Leipzig missed out on European football on matchday 34 and finished the season with 53 points – our lowest Bundesliga tally. This year, things look very different. RBL booked their Champions League place last week.
And there could be more to come: victory in Freiburg would take RBL to 68 points. We have never managed that many in ten Bundesliga seasons! Our current record stands at 67 points from the 2016/17 campaign. We could also reach 21 wins in a single season for the first time, setting two new club records in the process.

The hosts have made history by reaching the Europa League final. SC will face Aston Villa in Istanbul on 20th May. Freiburg therefore have a huge chance to win the first major trophy in the club’s history – and secure a place in the Champions League at the same time.
Even so, we should not expect Freiburg to take their foot off the gas in their final Bundesliga game. A win on Saturday would see them secure seventh place, which would guarantee them at least a spot in the Conference League play-offs. That would allow them to head into the Europa League final with considerably less pressure.

RBL have plenty of good memories from meetings with SC Freiburg. We are now unbeaten in 14 competitive games against Freiburg (W9, D5). The Red Bulls only have a longer unbeaten run against Augsburg (19). Freiburg’s last win over RBL came in October 2019.
Our current form also indicates an RBL win. Ole Werner's side have won eight of their last ten Bundesliga games. That is the joint-best return in the league over this period, matched only by champions FC Bayern.

Baumi simply keeps on delivering. With his assist for the opener in the win against St. Pauli, Christoph Baumgartner is now on 21 goal involvements in this Bundesliga season (13 goals, 8 assists). That equals the best tally by an Austrian player since detailed data collection began in 2004/05. Only Martin Harnik and Saša Kalajdžić had previously reached that mark – and on matchday 34, Baumi could surpass them.
David Raum is also closing in on another milestone. Our captain set up the second goal against St. Pauli, equalling his personal RBL best from last season. He currently has ten goal involvements to his name (3 goals, 7 assists). There could be more to come against Freiburg too – after all, Raumi has already set up four Bundesliga goals against them.

Noah Atubolu came through Freiburg’s academy and made the step from the youth ranks into the first team. He has been SCF’s number one for the last three years and is currently enjoying his best season. He has also received one call-up to the senior Germany squad, but is still waiting to make his debut.
Vincenzo Grifo is now 33 and no longer an undisputed starter. The experienced attacker has come off the bench in 11 of his 32 Bundesliga appearances this season. Even so, he has still registered seven goals and five assists, making him Freiburg’s leading provider and second-best goalscorer.
SC have a proper goalscorer again too: Igor Matanović already has ten Bundesliga goals to his name. In the 3-2 defeat in Hamburg, he scored his third brace of the season. Matanović has converted 62% of his big chances – only Nadiem Amiri (82%) and Andrej Kramarić (65%) have better rates across the division.
