‘Even €50m’ – Analyst Explains Club’s Reluctance To Sell Nottingham Forest Target | OneFootball

Feyenoord feel that Nottingham Forest target Givairo Read could be worth €50m if they do not sell him this summer, explaining their reluctance to do a deal, a Dutch analyst believes.

Despite being only 20, the Dutchman has already established himself as an integral figure at right-back for Feyenoord.

Read endured injury setbacks last season but still managed to register five goal involvements across 20 appearances, with the defender now fully involved in Feyenoord’s pre-season preparations.

European heavyweights such as Manchester City and Bayern Munich have been linked with Read, although Nottingham Forest were the first club to actively pursue his signature.

The Tricky Trees have tested Feyenoord’s resolve by lodging multiple bids, but the club have remained unwavering in their determination to retain the Dutchman.

Roma have also entered the picture for Read and are actively working towards an agreement with the Dutch outfit, although the Giallorossi have likewise been unable to establish common ground.

Both clubs have already reached an agreement on personal terms with Read, who is prepared to embrace a fresh challenge, but Feyenoord’s uncompromising stance continues to delay any breakthrough as they price him above €30m.

Man insisted that Feyenoord see little incentive to cash in now, with confidence that a fully fit campaign featuring regular Eredivisie and Champions League football and even the possibility of Read breaking into the Netherlands national team will supercharge his value for next summer.

He pointed out that Feyenoord believe the defender’s valuation would climb considerably under those circumstances as such progress could place the Dutchman in a transfer bracket of €40m to €50m by next summer.

Man explained Feyenoord’s stance on Read’s situation on ESPN program Tekengeld (via Dutch outlet Soccer News): “The club reasons: what if he stays fit next season, has an excellent year in the Eredivisie and Champions League, and perhaps even becomes a Dutch international?

“Then next year you might be talking about a transfer fee of €40m or even €50m.”

With three years still remaining on Read’s contract, Feyenoord find themselves in a commanding negotiating position and are under no pressure to soften their stance this summer.

Should the Dutchman remain in Rotterdam beyond this window and continue on his current trajectory, his stock could rise even further.

That could attract an even higher calibre of suitor and leave Nottingham Forest facing an increasingly difficult task even if they return next summer.

A Dutch journalist had previously suggested Read is not untouchable, with the right valuation capable of shifting Feyenoord’s position.

A fee in the region of €35m could yet prove persuasive, although whether the Tricky Trees are prepared to reach that level remains to be seen over the coming weeks.
