Everton finally found relief from their recent struggles defeating Fulham 2-0 on Saturday to claim crucial three point and extend the visitors miserable away run to 5 straight defeat.

In match where Everton’s forwards again misfired, it was the unlikely duo of Idrissa Gana Gueye & Michael Keane who delivered the goals. The defensive pair ensured that manager David Moyes call for more scoring support beyond the strikers was emphatically answered.

Gueye breaks the deadlock

The Toffees thought they had scored three time before the opener—each ruled out for offside but finally struck in first-half stoppage time. Captain James Tarkowski’s header rattled the crossbar, Tim Iroegbunam missed the rebound completely and Gueye reacted fastest to stab home his second goal of the season.

Having failed to find the net at all last term, the Senegal international is already on course to surpass his 2023 /24 tally of four.

Keane seals it late

With 10 minute remaining, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s inswinging corner was expertly flicked in by Keane confirming win far more comfortable than the scoreline suggests. Everton could easily have scored 4 or 5 had VAR not intervened repeatedly.

The victory snapped run of one win in 8 match for Moyes side who showed greater urgency, physicality and control throughout.

Moyes react

"The fans were brilliant for Thierno Barry today. He didn’t score but his work-rate and movement gave us an edge. If we keep that energy, the goals will come"

Key stats

  • Everton 2-0 Fulham — Gueye 45+4, Keane 80.
  • The Toffees had three goal disallowed for offside.
  • Fulham have now failed to win in 5 consecutive away game scoring only twice.
  • Everton recorded only their second victory in 9 across all competition.

Moyes men host Manchester United on 24 November while Fulham face daunting trip to Newcastle, still hovering point above the relegation zone.
