FLW takes a look at every club that has been linked with moves for Gus Hamer in recent times

Gustavo Hamer may well leave Sheffield United this summer, and the Brazilian-born Dutchman is unlikely to be short of suitors.

It's been a difficult season at Bramall Lane for Sheffield United, who look likely to be playing their football in the Championship once again next campaign.

After a torrid start under Spanish boss Ruben Selles, Chris Wilder returned to the dugout to steer the Blades away from danger, which he has done so successfully.

However, they never quite recovered from their poor start, and with just over a month of the season remaining, their hopes of making the top six look increasingly unlikely, unless they can find some incredible form over the next seven games.

With parachute payments running out this summer, they are resigned to seeing some inevitable departures this summer, with few more high-profile than that of Gus Hamer.

Hamer, 28, joined the Blades in the summer of 2023 from Coventry City for around £15 million on a four-year deal set to expire in 2027, and has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the club.

With another year in the English second tier increasingly likely, it appears as though Hamer's time with the Blades may be up this summer, as FLW takes a look at every club that has been linked with the midfielder in recent times.

Everton

Premier League outfit Everton has a very real chance of achieving European football this season, with the Toffees merely just three points off Merseyside rivals Liverpool in fifth place.

David Moyes' side did indeed turn to the Championship over the summer, bringing in Southampton's Tyler Dibling for around £40 million, though that deal, at this stage, appears to have flopped.

They had also reportedly held an interest in Sheffield United's Hamer, with the Dutchman on the club's shortlist, though no move was ever made.

With Hamer now in the prime of his career and on a cut-price deal, he could return to the top flight this summer, with Everton looking to bolster their midfield ranks.

Leeds United

Leeds United have been one of the clubs most prominently interested in Hamer over the years, with the West Yorkshire outfit having a long-term interest in the Sheffield United man.

However, no deal has ever materialised, yet this summer could provide the Whites with their best opportunity yet to secure his services.

With the Blades likely to accept bids coming their way for Hamer this summer, Leeds will almost certainly be one of the interested parties, regardless of whether they will be playing their football in the Premier League or Championship next season.

PSV

Dutch giants PSV look all but set to go on and reclaim their Eredivisie crown, sitting a whopping 15 points ahead of second-placed Feyenoord with six games to go, despite recent back-to-back losses.

The Eindhoven-based outfit did actually delve into the Championship market last summer, signing Stoke City youngster Sol Sidibe for their youth side, with the hope that the England youth international will go on and become a star for them in the future.

However, their work in the English second tier may not be over, having previously been credited with a link to Sheffield United's Hamer.

Hamer hasn't played in his homeland since leaving PEC Zwolle in 2020, but could be set for a return six years later, with PSV likely to be tracking the 28-year-old's situation this summer.

Trabzonspor

Turkish side Trabzonspor also have various links to the Championship, with the likes of former Southampton striker Paul Onuachu, former West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu, and former Hull City midfielder Ozan Tufan currently in the club's ranks.

The North Coast outfit is in a hotly contested battle at the top of the league with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce for the title, but could have been in the lead had they signed Hamer in the winter.

Alongside a couple of other European clubs, Trabzonspor were tracking the Dutchman as recently as last January, and shouldn't be counted out of a return in the summer.

Sevilla

Another side with a couple of Championship links in the form of former Brentford striker Neal Maupay and former Aston Villa, Bournemouth, and Reading goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, Sevilla have also been linked with Hamer in the past.

The seven-time Europa League winners have fallen some way since their days of European glory, and are at serious risk of relegation to the second tier this season.

Their chances of signing Hamer in that instance would be slim to none, though should they stay up, the club's stature is hard to ignore, and they have as good a chance as anyone of signing Hamer this summer, having been linked as recently as January.

Cremonese

The final side to have been linked with a switch for Hamer, Cremonese, like a few of the aforementioned clubs, have various links to the Championship in the form of former Middlesbrough midfielder Martin Payero, and, of course, former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, whilst current Boro winger Jeremy Sarmiento spent the first half of the season on loan in Italy from Brighton.

The Serie A minnows are looking to establish themselves in the top flight this campaign, but find themselves in a real relegation battle, having endured some dismal recent form.

Whether they would be able to afford Hamer in any instance, even with survival, remains to be seen, but they were credited with a link alongside both Trabzonspor and Sevilla in the winter, and could return in the summer.
