Zvonimir Boban has drawn a comparison between Inter Milan starlet Francesco Pio Esposito and Fiorentina veteran striker Edin Dzeko.

Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInter1908, the former AC Milan midfielder hailed the 20-year-old’s performance against Ajax.

Indeed, in the absence of Lautaro Martinez, he partnered up with Marcus Thuram in the final third.

Though Thuram’s brace settled Inter’s 2-0 win in Amsterdam, the Italian youngster refused to disappoint.

Esposito was impressive in possession and clever in his movement off the ball.

Despite failing to get on the scoresheet, he did much of the heavy lifting in attack, opening space for Thuram.

Even before last night, everyone knew that Esposito was a star in the making.

However, yesterday’s performance only confirmed his well-documented potential.

Meanwhile, Boban heaped praise on the Nerazzurri teenager and told him where he can still improve.

Edin Dzeko is in the autumn of his exceptional playing career. He is well past his peak.

However, at his prime, he was nearly unstoppable. And Boban believes that Esposito could reach the same level.

“Pio Esposito moves similarly to Dzeko,” the Croatian said. “I’ve known Dzeko since he was little.

“But Dzeko was much faster than he seemed, once he picked up speed, you couldn’t catch him.

“I hope Esposito improves in this area too, even though speed in football can’t be improved much.

“But perhaps he can anticipate movements better. With the class this boy has and the vision he possesses, he can really become an important player.

“Maybe speed will limit him from reaching even higher levels.”

Esposito may have another opportunity to start this weekend when Inter take on Sassuolo.

Yet, much will depend on Lautaro Martinez’s fitness.
