Former Italian striker Christian Vieri has urged Inter Milan not to take the upcoming Serie A clash against AC Milan for granted.
Speaking to La Repubblica via FCInter1908, the 52-year-old reminded the Nerazzurri of some things that happened in the past.
Inter and Milan will renew hostilities in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina at San Siro, with the Nerazzurri heading into proceedings amid a rich vein of form.
Despite being held to a scoreless draw at Como in midweek Coppa Italia action, Inter have been in formidable form in Serie A.
Indeed, they have secured a jaw-dropping 14 wins from 15 league outings since being beaten by the Rossoneri in November’s Milan derby.
Therefore, it’s unsurprising that they boast a ten-point lead at the top of the table, with Cristian Chivu on the verge of winning the Scudetto in his first season in charge.
However, Vieri believes Inter would be naive to take Massimiliano Allegri’s side lightly.

“Inter, first of all, have a ten-point advantage,” Vieri stated. “Against Genoa, they achieved a great win after the Champions League elimination – it wasn’t easy.
“Milan beat Cremonese and are having an incredible season. Allegri is doing an outstanding job and deserves credit for bringing the club back to the top spots.
“But the Nerazzurri are on an impressive run in Serie A. Both teams are strong, and the derby is always a special match: anything can happen. You have to stay focused.
“Inter must remember that Milan has beaten them in recent years, taking trophies away. It will require a great performance,” he added.
Then, Vieri also weighed in on the impressive firepower of both sides.
“Both teams are competitive up front,” he continued. “Inter is well organized and has several players performing brilliantly. Pio Esposito has exploded this year, and Bonny is doing well.
“Milan signed Füllkrug, who still needs to find consistency, but remains dangerous. And Leao is always unpredictable: he can disappear for five minutes and then score two goals in two minutes.
“He’s hard to mark, hard to read. Strikers decide matches, and San Siro will be packed – it’s fantastic for the fans.”
Finally, Vieri praised Inter boss Chivu.
“He was a strong and serious defender and a tough opponent,” he claimed. “As a coach, I see him as very well-prepared. He has clear ideas and knows how to communicate them to his players, which shows.
“After what happened a year ago, taking over Inter wasn’t easy, and having a ten-point lead is a big deal.”
