Fabio Capello has urged Inter Milan to regain their momentum after highlighting the team’s dip in form following their UEFA Champions League exit.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, Capello discussed the Nerazzurri’s recent rough patch.

Despite waltzing away with the Serie A title, Inter’s recent performances have failed to impress.

Indeed, the team’s recent downturn has coincided with the injury to Lautaro Martinez.

El Toro has been the cornerstone of Inter’s success this season, topping the club’s scoring charts in every competition.

However, Cristian Chivu lost his talismanic goal-getter to a calf injury against Bodo/Glimt last month.

Meanwhile, Inter have picked up just one win in four competitive games in the Argentine’s absence.

Furthermore, they averaged under one goal per match in that dreadful sequence.

Nevertheless, Chivu’s men are still on course to win their 21st Scudetto, sitting eight points clear of runners-up AC Milan.

“There’s a lack of intensity, and the play is very slow,” Capello said. “The team can create dangerous situations because of its quality, but the rhythm is missing.

“There’s neither the ball speed nor the circulation we saw before. The midfield doesn’t have the execution speed needed to serve the players up front.

“Absences have an impact; the team lacks someone who brings a sense of fire: Lautaro is the one who sets an example by chasing opponents and fighting. Right now, Inter is missing the leader who provides energy.

“Chivu? He managed everything well, but he hasn’t found a solution in midfield since Calhanoglu got injured. Up front, though, he has managed to cope because he still has Thuram, Esposito, and Bonny.”

Inter will try to get back to winning ways when they face bottom-half Fiorentina at Artemio Franchi this weekend.
