FLW identifies two Championship sides who should eye up a move for free agent Solly March.

Clubs throughout the EFL pyramid will be eyeing up further business as the summer transfer window continues to tick down.

The Championship season kicks off in just under two weeks, while all second tier teams will have until the 1st September to bolster their squad before the window slams shut.

As always, there are expected to be plenty more twists and turns regarding players’ future, as they look for a new environment that they believe can take their career to the next level.

And one player who is still looking for a new club is winger Solly March, who remains a free agent after his 15-year association with Brighton was brought to an end this summer.

The 32-year-old is looking for a fresh start after an agonising two-year period with injuries, with two separate ACL injuries in particular, contributed to him going from one of Brighton’s most dependable assets in the Premier League to being on the free agent scrap heap so soon before the start of the 2026-27 term.

Provided he can maintain his fitness, March still has all the qualities to be a top Premier League player, but he may have to drop into the second tier to prove he can stay fit over a prolonged period and show he is the player he once was for the Seagulls.

As Solly March’s wait for a return to football continues, the winger spoke to Jeff Stelling and Andy Townsend on talkSPORT Breakfast about his recent struggles.

And after a surprise exit from Brighton for the 32-year-old, he did admit that he is feeling as good physically as he has done in two years, potentially luring more sides to pursue his signature.

As reported by talkSPORT, March said: "It's a strange situation for me.

"I've never been in this situation before, I've always been at Brighton.

"It's a bit of the unknown really, not having a club. I'm just waiting for the right opportunity.

"But I'm fit, which is the main thing for me, and I'm feeling good."

March added: "I still think I've got the quality... I'm feeling good, the best I have in two years. Just waiting for the right chance and I think patience is the key."

With this in mind, FLW has identified two Championship clubs that should be weighing up a move for March heading into the 2026-27 campaign and why.

Wolves

At this moment in time, Wolves are in desperate need of additional wingers to their squad, particularly after the untimely injury to summer recruit Rafiki Said.

The reported £7.7million signing was forced off after 20 minutes of a friendly against Maidenhead, with scans coming back highlighting an MCL injury, which will keep him out of action for a minimum of two months.

It now leaves Wolves quite light when it comes to wide options as the season approaches, and it is turning out to be problematic, particularly when new boss Cesar Peixoto has been trialing out a 4-3-3 system during pre-season.

While March wouldn’t be the most exciting addition, he could offer excellent cover to Said while he makes his way back from injury.

March wouldn’t necessarily possess the burning pace required in 1v1 situations, but his immense experience and ability to consistently have an end product in the final third means he could be such an influential player in providing service to the likes of Raul Jimenez, with the Mexican international requiring that type of quality if he is to score enough goals to get Wolves immediately back into the Premier League.

When Said comes back, March also has the versatility to play on the opposite flank, and he could be a superb utility option to have in the midst of such a demanding Championship campaign, rotating with Rodrigo Gomes for that position.

A move to Wolves would also be very appealing for March himself, who would have a route back to playing Premier League football once again - something he’s made very clear he wants to do in his latest interview with TalkSPORT.

West Brom

If Solly March is to move to the Championship, then it could be a Black Country battle to see who comes out on top, with West Brom another side who should be seeking some additional reinforcements out wide.

After waving goodbye to the likes of Karlan Grant and Jed Wallace on free transfers, it leaves the Baggies with just two senior wingers on their books in Mikey Johnston and academy graduate Ollie Bostock, while the likes of Isaac Price and Jayson Molumby have also deputised on the flanks during the back end of last season.

Heading into a new season, Albion currently don’t have the depth in the wide areas to sustain a 46-game Championship campaign, and the addition of March could be a shrewd one for the club to make.

Similar to Wolves, Albion need an increase of quality from out wide to supply their revamped forward line, with the Baggies needing to notch a lot more goals if they are to be in with a chance of competing for promotion, and March could well be the key to unlocking that puzzle.

The 32-year-old has the potential to add a dynamic edge to Albion’s attack, with his wand of a left foot giving him the ability to unleash dangerous shots at goal, or pinpoint crosses that the likes of Aune Heggebo and Barney Stewart can get on the end of.

For March, moving to The Hawthorns would definitely see him get the game time he craves given Albion are so light on the flanks at this moment in time, while the Baggies need an injection of creativity and danger from out wide to match the output Mikey Johnston can produce on the left-hand side.

Therefore, it seems a deal that could work out for both parties extremely well. Of course, the only stumbling block for moves to both Wolves and West Brom could be over wages, so March will have to be pragmatic and alter those if he has a desire to play in the Championship.

With March eyeing up all his options, a Championship club could well be the beneficiaries of his services this coming season, and it will be intriguing to see whether one of Wolves or West Brom
