Froholdt showed an aptitude for success from an early age. The young blond, now 19 years old, who today commands and energizes FC Porto’s midfield, came up through Copenhagen’s youth system and stood out early on, attracting the attention of the Danish federation.
“I coached the 2005 generation in Denmark’s U19s and Victor was a year younger. He was the best player of the 2006 generation and was the youngest to join that group. He was already completely dominant in the U19s and started getting playing time with Copenhagen’s first team,” recalls Morten Eskesen, former Danish youth coach, in a conversation with A BOLA.
“Super professional, always working. I was in constant contact with the club and we even used to comment that he needed to relax a bit, because he would go train even on his days off,” says the coach, now part of Midtjylland’s technical staff, with a few smiles along the way.

Those who have worked with Froholdt highlight his attitude. “Exemplary on and off the pitch,” stresses Eskesen, “not at all surprised” by how quickly young Victor has made his mark “at a historic club like FC Porto.”
“It doesn’t surprise me, not at all. He runs much more than the other players, that’s the thing. He has fantastic physical ability. When players are young, it’s different, physically, being 17 or 18 years old. It’s not easy, but Victor was already the best. He can run for the whole game,” praises the 57-year-old coach, who also commends another quality of the Porto player: his versatility.

“He could play in different positions. In fact, we spent some time discussing what his best position was. He’s a midfielder, but we could put him on the right wing. We knew that, if something unexpected happened, we could even play Victor at right-back. I also worked with Conrad Harder, a player you Portuguese know well, and he could play as a central striker or more on the wing, but not in as many positions as Victor,” recalls Eskesen.
Given so many qualities, the former coach sees Froholdt’s future as very promising. “I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t end up in the Premier League!” says Morten Eskesen, aware of the rumors that have already started to circulate. “If I’m not mistaken, he didn’t play the first time I called him up. At the end of the game, he came to ask me for a ball, he just wanted to feel it, to work with it. It was almost night and he makes this request… That tells you a lot about his character. He accepted it when he didn’t play, because, in fact, we had a great crop of players,” he concludes.
