Former Denmark and Serie A star Martin Jorgensen has fired a stinging accusation against Manchester United regarding Rasmus Hojlund.
On transfer deadline day, United confirmed that Hojlund had sealed a loan move to Napoli.
While Hojlund’s future was questioned in the summer, matters escalated once the campaign got underway and Ruben Amorim opted to cast him aside.
Despite his desire to stay and fight for his place in the team, it was made clear to Hojlund that his services were no longer needed and it would be in his best interests to seek a new adventure. Reluctantly, he agreed to seal a switch to Napoli.
United and Napoli agreed an initial loan, which is expected to convert into an obligation once Champions League qualification is achieved.
Hojlund found the back of the net on his Napoli debut as the defending Serie A champions cruised to a 3-1 victory over Fiorentina. He has so far made three appearances for Napoli across Serie A and the Champions League.
As Hojlund adapts to life at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, former Udinese and Fiorentina player Jorgensen has accused United of failing to play for the striker.
Jorgensen said [as quoted by Football Italia], “If he finds a team where he can play and be helped to grow, he can do well.”
“It was difficult in Manchester because the team wasn’t playing for him.”
Jorgensen added, “Napoli is more competitive.”
“With McTominay or De Bruyne, who can also send him through the goal, the way he likes to do.”
Meanwhile, United are back in action on Saturday when they face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. Kick-off is at 12:30 pm.
