Inter Milan went three consecutive Serie A games without a win before the international break put the club season on hold.

Furthermore, Inter’s longest winless league run since 2023 coincided with the absence of Lautaro Martinez.

However, Cristian Chivu’s side returned to winning way last weekend with a scintillating 5-2 home victory over Roma.

Moreover, Lautaro painted his return from injury with flying colors, netting his second league double of the season.

As a result, Inter finished Matchday 31 seven points clear of second-placed Napoli.

Meanwhile, the Argentine striker strengthened his pursuit of another Capocannoniere award, taking his seasonal tally to 16 Serie A goals.

Therefore, he has now scored at least five more goals than any other player in the division.

Inter Milan Icon Aldo Serena Praises Lautaro Martinez

Asked whether Inter have put the crisis behind them, Serena replied: “Lautaro changed everything. He’s not just a goalscorer; Lautaro is the reference point, the captain who leads by example.”

Then, he praised Chivu’s impressive work in his first season at San Siro.

“He came from a few months at Parma and arrived at Inter, which had to rise from the ashes of the Monaco final. Moreover, he was smart, had the ability to communicate, and quickly understood that his ideas couldn’t be applied directly to the group.

“He combined his ideas with Inzaghi’s legacy. More coordinated high pressing, winning the ball near the edge… We’ll see the real Chivu next season if the transfer campaign aligns with his ideas.”

Finally, he delivered his verdict on the Scudetto race, admitting Napoli would need a miracle to overthrow Inter.

“Very difficult, especially considering Inter against Roma: without consistency, but they once again showed great potential.

“With the return of Lautaro, Calha, and Dumfries, it’s back. Napoli’s schedule is a bit easier, but there’s not a huge difference.

“90 percent. I leave 10 percent to Napoli because, in football, anything can happen. One year it was done with Juve, then Roma overtook us but eventually lost to already-relegated Lecce.”
