Skriniar is currently at Paris Saint-Germain. The Slovakian international joined the Parisians in the summer of 2023.

Skriniar’s move to the French capital came on a free transfer after he had rejected the offer of a contract extension from Inter.

The previous summer, the Nerazzurri had already been negotiating a potential transfer for Skriniar. However, the French champions’ offers did not go high enough.

However, despite the lengthy transfer saga that saw Skriniar end up in the French capital, his transfer to PSG has not gone according to plan.

Skriniar’s arrival came after he recovered from a long-term back injury. This had sidelined him for much of the second half of his final season at Inter.

There is a sense that the Slovak has struggled for his best form physically since returning.

Then, there is the matter of the PSG coach Luis Enrique’s desire for a possession-based style of play. In that sense, Skriniar has never really fit into the team.

Therefore, the 29-year-old has been on the fringe of PSG’s plans for much of his time at the Parc des Princes.

Accordingly, it is little surprise to see Skriniar leave PSG this month.

Galatasaray are the club to have stepped forward and made the decisive move to sign Skriniar.

Tuttosport report that PSG have been hoping to instead send Skriniar to Napoli.

However, the newspaper anticipate, the urging of former teammates like Mauro Icardi and Lucas Torreira has played a decisive role in Skriniar’s decision to join Galatasaray.

Therefore, it is up the PSG and Galatasaray to find an agreement on a transfer.

Skriniar will join the Turkish club on loan. Galatasaray will cover a chunk of his wages, although they are still hoping that PSG will cover some of the defender’s earnings.

The two clubs are now negotiating the final details of the loan deal.
