Kristoffer Klaesson, the former Leeds United number two who made three senior appearances, has retired at 25 after departing Aalesund.

The club said in a statement that he had decided to hang up his gloves and that it respected the choice. Both parties ended a deal that was due to run until 31 December 2028.

Klaesson joined Leeds from Vålerenga in July 2021 in a £1.5m move and spent three years at Elland Road, playing three times. He replaced the injured Illan Meslier in a Premier League win at Wolves that finished 3-2. He started once in the 2023/24 Championship due to Meslier’s suspension and Karl Darlow’s injury, and featured in the FA Cup at Peterborough United.

He left Leeds in summer 2024 by mutual consent a year early and signed for Raków Częstochowa as a free agent, but the deal was ended within two months amid fitness concerns and without an appearance. He moved to Danish side AGF in September 2024, making one senior appearance.

In January 2025 he returned to Norway with Viking, making 14 league starts as they won the 2025 Eliteserien. He then switched to rivals Aalesund in January of this year on a three-year contract.

He had started every Aalesund game earlier in the Eliteserien campaign before this decision. He also represented Norway at youth level up to Under 21.
