Crysencio Summerville says West Ham let themselves down after the club were relegated from the Premier League.
West Ham beat Leeds 3-0 on the final day, but Tottenham’s win over Everton sealed the drop. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side finished on 39 points, two short of Spurs and eight behind Leeds in 14th. The player said in a post that the team fell below expectations and that fans stood by them throughout a difficult season.
In 2023 he chose to stay with Leeds and fight for promotion, shining under Daniel Farke. Play-off final defeat to Southampton was followed by a summer move, with West Ham triggering a release clause just over £25 million plus add-ons.
Summerville thanked the Irons support, which he said restored hope in hard moments and made the squad believe until the end. He accepted that coming so close made the outcome harder to take, and said West Ham are too big to stay down, with a comeback starting now.
Attention now turns to the World Cup after his first senior call-up for the Netherlands, earned just in time for the tournament. It follows a March setback when injury delayed his debut.
In the group stage, the Netherlands could face two current Leeds players, Sweden’s Gabriel Gudmundsson and Japan’s Ao Tanaka, with Tunisia completing the pool.
