Former Scotland international Michael Stewart has referred to Motherwell’s impressive home form to insist that they are more than capable of scuppering Celtic‘s title charge tonight.
In the penultimate match of the season, the defending champions are set to play Jens Berthel Askou’s in-form Motherwell team inside Fir Park.
The Hoops cannot afford to drop points, as it could effectively end their prospects of winning the Scottish Premiership title.
A fact that will keep Martin O’Neill worried is Motherwell’s home form.
Of the 18 games the Steelmen have played inside Fir Park this season, they have lost just two – one against St Mirren last year and one only recently against Falkirk.
Stewart is more than confident about the Motherwell manager’s ability to cause an upset by playing his best team and the Steelmen performing to the best of their ability.

“What I would say about the game, Motherwell versus Celtic, is that if Motherwell turn up with their strongest team on the park and perform to the best of their ability, they are more than capable”, Stewart said on Scottish Football Social Club (38.34).
“They have only lost to one team at home this season, Motherwell. Falkirk are the only team that have beaten them at Fir Park.”
While referring to the uncertainty regarding the future of the Motherwell boss, who has been backed to step up to the challenge at Celtic by Gordon Dalziel if picked, Stewart insisted that Askou could not expect a better finish than potentially ending Celtic’s title charge.
“Whether Jens is at Fir Park next season or whether he is away to some other club, if he is still there or if he is leaving, this is the last home game of the season.

“The Motherwell fans couldn’t expect a better game to finish on than potentially scuppering the chances of another team.”
Celtic will need no reminding about just how crucial the Motherwell game is and if they win it then the would set up a title-decider against Hearts.
From there, if Celtic scoop up the Scottish Premiership title, they could still end a turbulent campaign with a domestic double as they are also in the Scottish Cup final.
