Former Sunderland and Middlesbrough academy goalkeepers have trained with Hebburn Town as the Hornets prepare for their first ever National League North campaign. They rose from a bottom-half finish to win last season’s Northern Premier League Premier Division, ahead of FC United of Manchester and Hednesford Town.
According to Sunderland Echo, Daniel Moore has already strengthened with Tom Allan, Elliot Forbes and Jake Charles, and his squad return to pre-season this week.
Goalkeeper coach Carl Morris led a session with Callum Dobson, Sam Taylor and Josh Skelton, joined by Dan Cameron and Nathan Fisher. Cameron, 20, had loans at the Trustmark Group Stadium late in 2024/25 and again last term, was recalled by Sunderland in March, finished with National League club Boston, and will leave Sunderland later this month after his release was confirmed.
Fisher, 21, also took part and is seeking a new club after his Middlesbrough release. He joined Boro from Sunderland’s academy in summer 2021 and featured alongside Sonny Finch, now at South Shields, and Isaac Fletcher.
There is no indication Hebburn are targeting Cameron or Fisher. Morris said inviting them benefits the club’s young keepers, showing how full-time professionals work, and he is open to doing it again.
Moore wants extra competition for Dobson and is exploring a loan return for Sunderland youngster Isaac Allan. He thinks Allan has every chance of a strong career, citing his attitude, calmness, ability and mentality. If a deal cannot be done, Moore hopes Allan gets an opportunity in the National League or EFL and believes he could progress to a very high level.
