Burnley have failed with a move for Rob Edwards, as they continue their search for Scott Parker's successor.

Burnley remain without a head coach as the countdown begins to their Championship opener against West Ham on August 16.

The Clarets endured a very difficult campaign last time out, as they were relegated from the Premier League without putting up much of a fight.

That frustrated the supporters, with many getting the change they wanted as it was announced that Scott Parker had left the club at the end of April.

However, almost two months on, Burnley still haven’t appointed his successor, with a deal for Craig Bellamy falling through late on due to not being able to bring in the coaching staff he desired - and they've also been snubbed by another potential contender.

Rob Edwards will not become the next Burnley head coach

After it became clear Bellamy wouldn’t be taking over at Turf Moor, reports claimed Rob Edwards was a contender for the vacancy at the Championship side.

The 43-year-old is out of work after he was sacked by Wolves following their relegation, which was a decision that surprised many observers.

Even though Edwards won only three of his 27 Premier League games at Molineux, there was a feeling the ex-Middlesbrough chief had been appointed with the Championship in mind, as he inherited a Wolves squad that were facing an inevitable relegation.

However, despite the nature of his dismissal, it appears Edwards isn’t rushing to get back into the game, as TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook revealed that Burnley have ‘failed with an approach’ to the former Luton Town boss.

Burnley must make a quick managerial decision as huge summer window awaits

If Burnley had appointed Edwards, it’s fair to say that it would’ve been a decision that divided opinion, as he has had a mixed managerial record so far.

But, the bigger issue is that it’s another failed appointment for Burnley, and it means the club are in danger of losing ground in this crucial summer period.

Firstly, a new manager is needed to make decisions on transfers. Obviously, the recruitment team will still be doing work in the background, but you need to know what type of manager you are getting players for and the way they play.

As well as that, pre-season is just around the corner, and it’s often stated how crucial this period is for a manager in getting to know his players.

It also sends out the wrong message that Burnley are missing out on another managerial target, which will just prompt more questions, including from the players, who will want clarity on the direction the club are heading.

So, the hierarchy must sort this out swiftly, and then get to work in backing the new boss, and reshaping the squad as they look to bounce back to the Premier League.

The 2026/27 Championship season looks like it will be extremely competitive, and Burnley are risking falling behind their rivals as they still don’t have a manager in place, which is remarkable when you consider the date Parker departed.

As for Edwards, he will have his own reasons for not wanting the Burnley job, but he will be determined to pick his next club carefully given the manner of his Wolves exit.
