Noni Madueke received heaps of praise for his performance on Saturday as England narrowly beat Andorra to remain top of their Fifa World Cup qualifying group.
The Chelsea winger played a key role in the victory at the RCDE Stadium, setting up Harry Kane for the only goal of the game in the 50th minute.
The Three Lions were far from their best against the minnows, but Madueke was the standout performer on a sweltering day. He created four chances and took three shots while also completing three dribbles, more than any other player on the pitch.
Roy Keane was broadly critical of how England played, but was impressed by Madueke’s performance and in particular his movement off the ball.
“Noni Madueke gave a very mature performance,” the Irishman said during ITV’s post-match analysis.
“His movement was excellent. He stretched in behind and he played as though he had something to prove.”
England boss Thomas Tuchel felt the 23-year-old posed the biggest threat to Andorra on his sixth international cap.
“He was over the course of the match, the most dangerous,” the German told ITV. “I could feel his hunger to do what was the plan throughout the whole of the match.”
Harry Kane joined in the chorus of praise his teammate. “I think Noni was a constant threat today and we need more of that,” the England captain said.
“We have amazing players and we need players who are going to take on players and keep doing it. He played really well.”
Tuchel’s sit atop Group K with three wins from their opening three games and no goals conceded.
