‘Excellent’ – Hansi Flick credits one Barcelona star with ‘controlling the game’ vs Celta Vigo | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has made clear his appreciation for the efforts of midfield standout Frenkie de Jong in the club’s latest outing.

This comes after the Dutchman conjured up another trademark performance on Sunday.

Barcelona of course made the trip to Celta Vigo yesterday evening, for a La Liga clash.

And en route to an eventual 4-2 triumph for the visitors, De Jong proved himself nothing short of a vital presence in the middle of the park.

In the absence of engine room partner Pedri, the 28-year-old took the game by the scruff of the neck, particularly during the 2nd-half, to provide Barca with some much-needed control over proceedings.

Though he was ultimately shown a red card for a 2nd bookable offence deep into injury time, De Jong’s impact had long been felt.

And as alluded to above, post-match, manager Hansi Flick was quick to praise his side’s midfield maestro:

“Frenkie was excellent for us. He controlled the game. It’s a shame he got suspended, but we will see about it.”
