Alexander Isak will be back in Liverpool team training this Thursday, Arne Slot has confirmed.

The Sweden international is set to make his official return after a three-month injury layoff period.

The former Newcastle striker had picked up an ankle injury (including a fibula fracture) after scoring against Tottenham back in December, which subsequently required surgery.

Liverpool’s official X (formerly Twitter) account confirmed the good news on Wednesday afternoon.

Arne Slot told reporters ahead of the Reds’ FA Cup clash with Manchester City: “I think Alex is in a really good place because Sweden qualified for the World Cup yesterday evening and apart from that he’s going to train with the group again for the first time tomorrow.

“If you’ve worked so hard for three, four months or something like that and then to return to team training, that’s for everyone very nice. So Alex is, in that sense, in a good place.

“Of course it’s only his first session, after three or four months [out], with the team but it’s good to have him back because we all know who we signed and we’ve signed an incredible striker.”

The Reds’ No.9, who signed from the Magpies this summer for an astronomical £125m fee, has struggled to gather minutes in his debut campaign at L4.

Isak has only managed 16 appearances (781 minutes) in the 2025/26 season, registering three goals and one assist in that time (across all competitions).

Could Isak help Liverpool achieve a big finish this season?

Defending the Premier League title is firmly off the table for Liverpool this season. However, there still remains the (somewhat slim) possibility of lifting two pieces of silverware in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Again, we hasten to emphasise that, on current form, our chances of success on both fronts look incredibly slim. And the fact that we’re facing the likes of Manchester City and PSG, respectively, hardly fills us with confidence.

Still, adding Alexander Isak back into the squad is sure to improve absolutely any of Europe’s elite outfits.

We’ll want to be very careful about how quickly we throw the 26-year-old back into the thick of the action. So, we’d be surprised to see the Swede gather any minutes much before our two-legged tie against PSG on April 8th and 14th.

It’s a handy bit of extra firepower, should we require it.
