The 2025/26 campaign is now well and truly underway, with managers throughout the second-tier having been afforded enough time to run the rule over their squads and determine strengths and weaknesses from this term's evidence as we head to the end of the October international break.

With that in mind, then, many clubs are sure to already have one eye on the January transfer window in a bid to bolster their fortunes for the second-half of the season, be it towards a promotion push or avoiding relegation to League One.

And one player potentially poised to find himself on the move following the turn of the year is Munroe, who has a host of Championship suitors ahead of January.

Championship clubs eyeing Aston Villa, Finley Munroe transfer amid Swindon Town exploits

Sources close to Football League World have exclusively revealed that a number of undisclosed Championship outfits are eyeing up a January loan swoop for Munroe following his impressive start to the season at Swindon.

For now, at least, it remains unclear exactly which sides are preparing to pursue his signature, although further interest in the 20-year-old should only be anticipated if he continues to excel in his second successive temporary stint away from Villa Park.

Having been on the books at Leicester City before joining Aston Villa's academy in 2021, Munroe has progressed steadily through the ranks. He made two senior appearances in the 2023/24 campaign and spent the duration of last season on loan with Spanish outfit Real Union, where he made 24 appearances.

But he has received more visibility upon returning to England to join Swindon, with the highly-rated left-sided operator earning a plethora of admirers for his performances at the County Ground.

At the time of writing, Munroe has played nearly every available minute for Ian Holloway's side, who are positioned second in League Two after eleven matches.

Operating from wing-back, Munroe has already provided four assists, including three in his last five games against Barrow, Harrogate Town and Newport County, and Championship sides are eager to acquire that creativity and dynamism for themselves.

Swindon Town, Ian Holloway will be desperate to retain Aston Villa's Finley Munroe as Championship clubs circle

Swindon will naturally be desperate to retain Munroe's services for the season's full duration, with promotion back to League One a firm objective, and one which would potentially be undermined by losing him.

That, however, is the risk that is taken when picking up young loan talents from Premier League clubs, who are always, and understandably so, keen for those players in question to be tested at the highest available standard if they are perceived to have outgrown their current league level.

Swindon are no strangers to a loanee from the Second City side, with Louie Barry and Kaine Kesler-Hayden having both touched down in Wiltshire in years gone by.

Indeed, Barry was ripping up League One on loan at Stockport County just last term before Unai Emery decided to cut that short and test the explosive forward in the Championship with Hull City, which may leave Swindon fearing such an occurrence for themselves with Munroe.
