The summer transfer window is an opportunity for FC Barcelona to reinforce their current squad. Already a highly competitive side, the right kind of reinforcements would certainly take things to an even higher level. However, their financial limitations have hindered Barcelona a lot recently.
Following the successful arrival of Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia, Barcelona turned their attention towards signing a new left-winger. Unfortunately, that particular objective of theirs has provided nothing but headaches so far as Nico Williams has already renewed his contract and Luis Diaz now reportedly has an agreement with Bayern Munich.
Another market opportunity that was presented to the club was that of Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries. The Dutch right-back, with his €25 million release clause, seemed to be an opportunity that Barcelona would ideally grab with both hands.

However, as per our sources, the club has another name in mind to be their contingency option behind Dumfries. Interestingly, this particular option is a former Barcelona player who left the club to join Celta Vigo not too long ago.
Oscar Mingueza, aged 26, joined Celta Vigo from Barcelona in 2022. However, the Catalan giants continue to maintain a 50% sell-on clause in his contract that would mean that half of all proceeds from any transfer involving him would go to Barcelona.
While the club does not exactly have a buy-back clause attached to the player’s contract, the 50% sell-on clause could lower his transfer fee. Valued at €20 million by Transfermarkt, it is assumed that a transfer would cost Barça around half of that to bring him back to the club.
A former La Masia graduate and a player who spent a decent amount of time with the first team, Mingueza knows what it’s like to play for Barcelona. Moreover, with the Dumfries option not exactly being guaranteed due to all the involved variables, Barça could look towards Mingueza as a safer bet for them to support Jules Kounde next season.
