Frenkie de Jong is currently in his seventh season at FC Barcelona. Having arrived at the club back in 2019 from AFC Ajax for a significant fee, the Dutchman, for long, divided opinions among the fanbase.
There was also tension between the Barça board and the player owing to his high salary, which led to leaks of his contract details and attempts at sale.
However, things have settled down over the past couple of years, with Deco smoothing things over after taking over as sporting director and Hansi Flick making him a key part of his setup since being appointed as manager.
So much so that De Jong signed a new contract with Barcelona earlier his year, committing his future to the club until 2029.

As mentioned earlier, the 28-year-old Dutchman penned a new three-year deal with Barça not long ago, agreeing to his continuity until 2029.
Negotiations were not easy, especially with the midfielder’s former agent, Ali Dursun, posing a challenge. However, things moved swiftly once he was replaced by Sebastien Ledure.
After everything that has happened between him and the club, Barcelona strongly believe that De Jong’s future is at the Spotify Camp Nou and that he will not consider leaving before his contract expires – by which time he will be 32 years old.
One of the club captains, De Jong, has grown tremendously in stature over the past year or so under Flick.
He turned in one of his best performances for the club earlier this month in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid, leading the team to the first trophy of the season.
Since arriving at Barcelona in 2019, De Jong has made 283 appearances and has had 46 direct goal involvements (G 27, A 19).
