The Bantams celebrated promotion back to League One after six years away, with manager Graham Alexander masterminding a return to the third tier of English football as they finished in the top three thanks to a dramatic last-gasp final day of the season win over Fleetwood Town at Valley Parade.

City have already been incredibly active in the transfer window in its infancy, with seven new players all arriving on permanent deals, and Alexander is keen to run the rule over one potential new recruit in particular.

FLW has been told that Graham Alexander is looking at veteran EFL defender Jack Hunt in pre-season training.

The 34-year-old, who was born in nearby Rothwell, is currently a free agent, having left Bristol Rovers at the end of the 2024-25 season, in which the Gas were relegated to League Two - the division that the Bantams have just escaped.

And despite landing right wing-back Josh Neufville from AFC Wimbledon this summer on a free transfer and already having Brad Halliday to call upon, Hunt will also be looked at among the current Bradford squad, who returned to training earlier this week in preparation for their upcoming campaign.

Hunt started his career at Huddersfield Town, coming through their academy and appearing 121 times for them before earning a big Premier League move to Crystal Palace in 2013 - although he would never make an appearance for the Eagles or in the top flight of English football.

Taking in loan stints in the mid-2010's with Barnsley, Nottingham Forest, Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday, Hunt signed permanently for the Owls in 2016, spending two-and-a-half more years at Hillsborough before a move to Bristol City in 2018.

Returning to Yorkshire in 2021 with Wednesday as a League One club, Hunt bagged the winning penalty kick in their play-off semi-final clash against Peterborough United in 2023, but was released after their Final victory over Barnsley.

The last two years have been spent at Bristol Rovers by Hunt, where he played 48 times for the Gas, and he started the majority of their League One matches at the back end of 2024-25 after spending a lengthy amount of time on the sidelines with a torn calf muscle.
