According to RDG Today, the Addicks have reached an agreement with Reading in the region of £1.8 million for the 26-year-old.

Knibbs has spent the last two seasons with the Royals in League One, featuring 88 times across the two campaigns.

He contributed 25 goals and 12 assists in that time, helping the club finish 17th and seventh.

Hendrie believes that Knibbs will have no trouble adjusting to life in the Championship under Nathan Jones.

He is optimistic that the player will fit the bill of what the London outfit need next season as they prepare for life back in the second division.

“Good signing,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.

“Nathan Jones will get the best out of him.

“I don’t think it’s a gamble at all, no, not at all.

“I think with the style that they play, I think he’ll fit the bill for Charlton and knowing that Nathan Jones, and his drive to push players on, I think he will get the best out of him.”

Charlton’s summer business

Knibbs will be Charlton’s latest signing in what has been an active summer market so far for the newly-promoted side.

The Addicks have already brought Charlie Kelman, Reece Burke, Rob Apter, Tanto Olaofe, Thomas Kaminski and Joe Rankin-Costello to the club on a permanent basis.

Free agent agreements were also reached with Amari’i Bell and Sonny Carey, with the London outfit looking to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

Charlton will begin their upcoming season with a home clash against Watford on 9 August in a 12.30pm kick-off at the Valley.

Knibbs signing has potential for Charlton

Knibbs performed quite well for Reading across the last two seasons in League One, and it comes as no surprise he’s attracted such interest.

A deal worth £1.8 million has a lot of potential for Charlton, as he could become worth a lot more than that if he makes a smooth transition to the Championship.

He has a proven track record of scoring goals, which is something Jones’ side will need in order to compete at this level.

It’s promising that the club have been so active in the market, and that they’ve put this much preparation into life back in the second tier, giving them the potential to possibly survive in the division beyond one year.
