David Prutton believes West Brom defender Semi Ajayi would be a great addition at Hull City this summer if he were to arrive at the MKM Stadium.

According to Africa Foot, the one of the player’s agents - Larry Oban - has suggested that talks have been held regarding a potential move.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign, and thus could be available as a free agent unless an extension agreement is reached with the Baggies, which doesn't look likely.

However, Hull also face competition from League One side Reading, who have also approached Ajayi over a possible move in the summer, despite the fact they are still locked in takeover talks to rid Dai Yongge of the Berkshire outfit.

Lead Sky Sports EFL presenter David Prutton has claimed the signing of Ajayi would be great business by Hull, if they manage to survive in the Championship.

He’s highlighting the defender’s experience as a key asset, and is confident the Nigeria international will help improve their options at the back for next season.

“Semi Ajayi to Hull City would be a tremendous move,” Prutton exclusively told Football League World.

“Experienced as a player...I think Ruben’s a tremendous manager, righting the wrongs of the appointment of Tim Walter.

“And, as long as they survive, and this is the position we find ourselves in as we discuss them, if they survive then he would be a cracking addition I think, having experienced the weight of expectation at a club with slightly different ambitions to Hull City, with the greatest respect to both.

“But I think he would very much help to shore up that backline.”

Hull’s survival in the Championship is not yet guaranteed, with the club going into the final game of the season away at Portsmouth needing to win to have any chance of staying up.

If they aren't victorious, they’re at risk of dropping down into League One after four seasons in the second tier.

Semi Ajayi would be a solid signing for Hull City, but surviving in the Championship is a more pressing concern

Ajayi has plenty of Championship experience, and would be a solid signing for the likes of Hull.

It’s clear that the Tigers need to improve at the back this summer regardless of what division they’ll be competing in.

Given Ajayi will be available as a free agent, the relatively cheap cost also makes him quite an appealing option for Ruben Selles’ side.

While there are some concerns over his drop-off in importance at West Brom over the last year or so, he is still more than capable of competing at a Championship level.

However, perhaps now isn't the right time for the club to be engaged in transfer talks, given they still do not know what division they will be playing in next season - survival is the most important thing and they probably need to win against Portsmouth to secure their safety.
