The German boss is back with the club after a long period of trying to leave it.
Danny Rohl has returned to his duties with Sheffield Wednesday after a long period of trying to manufacture a move away from Hillsborough.
The German boss, who led the Owls to so many good times in what was, on the pitch, a very tough period in the club's recent history, has damaged his reputation with his recent attempts to leave Wednesday, despite having two years left on his deal.
In April, he made it clear to the club that he intended to seek out a new opportunity for himself this summer. What soon followed was a period of financial chaos that left the club with three embargoes, a transfer ban which lasts until the start of 2027 and a number of both playing and non-playing staff short of the wages that they were owed.
It was, and still can be considered, a mess at Hillsborough, but one that he has now returned to after no club was willing to take him away from the Steel City this summer.
Some players were reportedly unhappy about the 36-year-old coming back to lead them part the way through pre-season training. Rohl didn't report back to Middlewood Road for the start of next season's preparations on time despite, according to The Sun, being ordered to cut his holiday short by the club's chairman and owner, Dejphon Chansiri.
Clear-the-air talks have been held between Rohl and the players, as per The Star, but some may still look to leave Wednesday, either because of the German's return or due to the uncertainty that is looming over Hillsborough.
Don Goodman, the former Leeds United striker turned Sky Sports pundit, isn't sure if Rohl's return will help to convince any of the players to stick it out with Wednesday.
He exclusively told Football League World: "Well, at the moment, Danny Rohl staying at Sheffield Wednesday might be having the opposite effect really, in terms of the noise coming out of Hillsborough, in terms of several players being unhappy at the thought of Danny Rohl's return when, well, as far back as last April, he hinted that he wanted to leave the football club.
"So I don't know [whether it will encourage some players to stay]. I think whether he stays or whether he goes, the club is in serious turmoil and then, if you have the possibility of leaving for a better alternative, then as a player, you might be inclined to take that up.
"So I'm not sure how influential Danny Rohl's return to Hillsborough as head coach would be over whether players stay or whether players go."
Wednesday are very much at the behest of the players at the moment, especially those that have been able to hand in their notices to the club following two months of non-payment. Josh Windass is said to be one of the players that has taken such action.
They are in a very restricted position to be able to replace the likes of Windass, or the wing duo of Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba that have been poached away from the Owls in recent days, and Chansiri needs the cash from sales to be able to pay off the debts that he owes.
If a player really wants to leave, in this situation, they'll probably be able to find their way out pretty easily.
