It was reported earlier this week by Football Insider that the Blues are among the clubs chasing the midfielder’s signature.

Chris Davies will be looking to strengthen his side for life in the Championship after leading the Midlands outfit to promotion.

Savage was a standout figure for the Royals in the previous campaign, contributing five goals and nine assists from 45 league appearances.

Hendrie has claimed that Savage spending time developing in the lower leagues of English football has really helped his development, and he is now ready to move up to the Championship.

He suggested a transfer to Birmingham would be a great bit of business for all involved, amid reports that he could be available for as much as £2 million.

“I’ve got to say, I watched Charlie when he was at Forest Green, and I thought he was excellent,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.

“He’s got lots of good traits to his game, he works hard, gets himself into good areas, plays on the front foot and he’s very young.

“So, yes, I do think he’d be a really good addition to Birmingham City.

“I think bringing younger players in who have had to go and have a taste further on down the league, get that strength — which I think he has.

“When he went to Forest Green, he had to go through that, then obviously is at Reading and played a lot more games, which I think he needed to do.

“He starts to come down with more experience under his belt, so I do think having those times away from when he was at United, he could go and play some football and get himself stronger, and adapting to how the English game is.

“I think he would be a really good signing for Birmingham, there’s no doubt of that.”

Reading will struggle to hold onto Savage this summer

Savage was a standout player in Noel Hunt’s side last season, so it’s no surprise that he’s attracting Championship transfer interest.

With clubs like Birmingham eyeing him, it’s hard to see him remaining with the Royals beyond the summer.

His performances in League One indicate he could be ready to make the step up to the Championship.
