Don Goodman has shared his reaction to reports that Everton are interested in Sheffield United striker Tyrese Campbell.

Pundit Don Goodman believes the Sheffield United board would face a backlash from supporters if they were to sell striker Tyrese Campbell amid reported interest from Everton.

Campbell joined Sheffield United on a free transfer from Stoke City last summer, and he scored 11 goals and provided two assists in 37 appearances last season, including netting in the play-off final against Sunderland, but it was not enough to secure promotion for his side.

The 25-year-old's strong form continued into the new season as he scored in the 4-1 home defeat to Bristol City on the opening weekend, but the Blades could be vulnerable to losing him before the end of the transfer window.

It has been claimed that Campbell is on the radar of Premier League side Everton this summer, and it is not the first time the Toffees have been linked with him, but the striker committed his future to United last week, claiming that he is keen to "repay" the club for the "risk" they took in signing him.

Amid speculation over the future of Campbell and defender Jack Robinson, head coach Ruben Selles has warned the Blades hierarchy against allowing any more players to leave the club without having a replacement already through the door following the departures of the likes of Anel Ahmedhodzic, Vini Souza and Kieffer Moore.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Goodman admitted that he would expect a furious reaction from Sheffield United supporters if the club were to sell Campbell this summer, and he warned the Blades that, if they are serious about achieving promotion this season, they cannot afford to lose their main striker.

"I think there would be absolute uproar among the fans if Sheffield United sold Tyrese Campbell," Goodman said.

"He's off the back of his best-ever goalscoring season.

"Chris Wilder managed him really well so that he was able to play in 36 games last season, and I think that's always been the issue.

"Can you keep Tyrese Campbell fit?

"If you can, you know that he's a great finisher, and he's already demonstrated that this season with a brilliant goal against Bristol City.

"If you're Sheffield United in the Championship and you have ambitions of getting into the top two, which I should imagine they have, then I don't think that is a transfer that you could afford to sanction."

Sheffield United's squad is already looking relatively thin after some high-profile sales this summer, so it is difficult to disagree with Goodman that Campbell's departure would not go down well with an increasingly frustrated fan base.

After Moore's move to Wrexham, Campbell's exit would leave Tom Cannon and Ryan One as the Blades' only senior strikers, but they have scored a combined total of just two goals between them for the club, which would not be anywhere near enough firepower for a promotion push.

As FLW exclusively revealed last month, Selles is having to work on a limited budget this summer, so if Campbell was to be sold, there are big question marks over whether the Spaniard would be able to reinvest the money to bring in a replacement of similar quality.
