Sheffield Wednesday are in talks with Manchester City over the potential loan return of Jaden Heskey, Football League World has learned

Sheffield Wednesday's summer transfer activity could be poised to go right down to the wire as the League One promotion hopefuls engage in discussions with Manchester City over the live possibility of returning Jaden Heskey to Hillsborough before the window slams shut at 11pm tomorrow evening, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

The Owls have enjoyed an encouraging start to life in English football's third-tier following relegation from the Championship and a wholesale squad rebuilding process throughout the summer months, which has seen no fewer than 16 players land in the blue-and-white quarters of the Steel City.

Should Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen get his way in time, however, that number will be increased once the clock runs out, and a reunion with Heskey remains very much on the cards in the dying embers of this summer's window.

As Sheffield Wednesday fight to conclude remaining deals before tomorrow evening, Football League World has learned that there is an eagerness to return Heskey to the club for a full season after the 20-year-old spent the second-half of the previous campaign on loan from Man City.

Indeed, sources have revealed that Wednesday have entered talks with the Citizens in an effort to lure Heskey back across the Pennines, and will fancy their chances of securing the midfielder's signature for a second occasion.

FLW understands that, once again, the Owls are lining up a move with the view of landing Heskey on a temporary basis, with Pedersen still having one matchday loan spot remaining at his disposal after striking deals for Mason Burstow, Harry Gray, Ali Al-Hamadi and Kieran Morrison.

Reports earlier this summer suggested that Wednesday had retained an interest in bringing Heskey back to Hillsborough and FLW can not only confirm that this is the case, but indeed, that the League One promotion contenders are actively pursuing a reunion at the window's last-grasp stage.

Wednesday have provided a platform for young Premier League-contracted starlets to prove their worth in League One by acquiring Gray and Morrison, and Heskey would also fall into that category if the Owls can get a deal over the line.

The Man City academy product's desire left nothing else to be desired when he checked in with the Owls for the remainder of last season in such dire circumstances, simply wanting to play consistent football within the EFL pyramid.

Heskey, of course, would do exactly that by starting 19 of his 20 appearances in a depleted threadbare squad under Pedersen, and would face increased competition for a place despite the Owls' relegation to the third-tier, while forming part of a winning side expected to compete for promotion all season long.

Now, with the deadline swiftly approaching ahead of tomorrow evening's 11pm shut-down, the possibility of Heskey returning to the Owls remains at large in what would likely be the club's final acquisition until the turn of the year.

Pedersen's rebuild of the playing squad in recent months has seen a litany of fresh faces arrive at Wednesday, who now have a much more competitive side and stiffer competition in just about every position on the pitch.

The Dane is particularly spoiled for choice in the middle of the park, having sealed the emotional return of Barry Bannan before adding Jordi Liongola, Billy Mitcell and Tyler Onyago to the ranks alongside academy graduate pair Sean Fusire and Jarvis Thornton.

He's poised to have some selection dilemmas to content with throughout the season, but that will only be a much-welcomed problem as Wednesday push for the return of Heskey.
