According to The Sun, the Red Dragons are looking to sign the goalkeeper back to the club after his departure from Leicester City.

The 31-year-old previously came through the Wrexham academy system, although he never played for the first team squad before signing for Liverpool in 2012.

The shot-stopper is available as a free agent this summer following his exit from the Foxes, where he settled into a secondary role before Mads Hermansen.

Hendrie believes adding someone of Ward’s experience will be a positive step for Wrexham next season, and he could help the likes of Arthur Okwonkwo improve.

He also claimed that he is a dependable figure that could be relied upon to step into Phil Parkinson’s team if needed.

“Listen, I think taking an experienced goalkeeper back to a club where he’s been, he knows, it’s always good,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.

“I think there’s always a good feel factor when you bring in someone that’s got experience, particularly goalkeepers.

“You know you can turn to them if there’s an injury.

“I think adding that experience, giving that guidance to the young goalkeepers they’ve got, you do feel that he would be really good for them.

“I’m sure that he will end up going towards the coaching staff at Wrexham but, again, a great experienced goalkeeper that you know you can turn to if need be, and if he has to change things up.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Danny Ward being linked with going back there at all.”

Wrexham are preparing for life in the Championship after gaining promotion from League One at the first attempt last season.

Ward signing could make sense for Wrexham

Ward has gained a lot of top level experience from his time at both Liverpool and Leicester.

Bringing that to the Wrexham dressing room could be quite valuable for this season as they look to cement their place in the Championship.

While it’s unlikely he’ll play too many games, he should also be able to help Okonkwo’s development and can still provide worthy competition.

Given he’ll be a free agent signing, and he already knows the club, this is a move that would make a lot of sense for all parties and shouldn’t have too big of an impact on the club’s transfer budget.
