Ryan Lowe is looking to bolster his attacking options this summer after the Latics ended the 2024/25 season having scored just 40 goals in League One last term.

Wigan also look set to receive another boost to their forward line, with Wrexham striker Paul Mullin set to complete a loan move to The Brick Community Stadium.

The club have also just completed the signing of Portsmouth striker Christian Saydee, adding yet another option to Lowe's attack force.

Football League World has exclusively been informed that Wigan Athletic are eyeing up a transfer raid for Bromley striker Michael Cheek.

The 33-year-old centre-forward was named as the League Two Player of the Season at the 2024/25 EFL Awards, after his superb campaign with the fourth tier side.

A former England C international, the powerful striker bagged 25 goals in 45 league outings last term, winning the division's golden boot award ahead of Notts County's Alassana Jatta, who netted 19 times.

Cheek is under contract with Bromley for the 2025/26 campaign, meaning Wigan will have to fork out a transfer fee if they wish to secure his signature this summer.

The striker has been with the Ravens since the summer of 2019, having joined the club from Ebbsfleet United back when they were a National League side.

Thanks in large part to his goals, Bromley were able to make the National League play-offs on two separate occasions, before finally winning promotion to League Two in 2023/24.

Cheek would be a gamble by Wigan, but it's perhaps one they are inclined to take

At 33, Cheek is heading towards the twilight years of his highly fruitful goalscoring career.

The Bromley man has simply scored goals wherever he's been, having bagged well over 100 for his current side, as well as hitting excellent scoring rates with Ebbsfleet, Dagenham & Redbridge, Braintree Town and Chelmsford respectively.

However, 2024/25 was his first ever season playing EFL football, having spent the rest of his career exclusively playing at various non-league levels.

As such, asking him to make yet another step up to League One level at his age may prove tough for him, but some strikers just have that goalscoring knack regardless of what division they play at.

Cheek has certainly proven that he's one of those strikers, and Wigan desperately need to sharpen their cutting edge in attack this summer.

Therefore, whilst his signing would be a gamble for the aforementioned reasons, it's perhaps one that the Latics more than most League One sides should be taking.
