The worst fear has been confirmed for the Aston Villa forward. While on loan from Manchester United, Marcus Rashford has seen a noticeable uptick in his play and, consequently, his stock under Unai Emery. Monday gave AVFC supporters something to further be disappointed in, as it appears that his campaign has come to an end for this season.
The Athletic's David Ornstein shared on X that Rashford would be ruled out for the upcoming weeks. This doesn't necessarily come as a surprise, as Emery had previously stated that he would be evaluated on a weekly basis. Given where Villa are in the season, it was known that his return would always be improbable at best.
Rashford is dealing with a hamstring injury. According to the report, however, surgery will not be required. Instead, with some rest in rehab, Ornstein shared that the England international's aim will be to return to full fitness for the Three Lions fixtures in June.
Acquired in January, he showed a lot of flashes of what he can be at his best. Unfortunately for him and for Villa, it didn't result in something tangible, but the progress for both him and the club was undeniable. Now, the attacking player will have something of a decision to make.
Going back and trying to make it work in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 would be something of a gamble. After all, he is playing well and is in favor with Emery at Villa. If he were to remain with the Villans, almost assuredly he'd need to take something of a haircut off his current salary.
Another club, such as Barcelona, could be interested in adding Rashford to their side after watching how he's played outside of Old Trafford. A top team that is willing to match his current wages could be in the market for the 27-year-old. Either way, the saga that will be his final destination is something that many will monitor over the summer.
While it may be the end of his playing with Villa, fans appreciate what Rashford did. His efforts are part of what led to the home win against PSG during the second leg of the Champions League. Earlier, the forward scored his first Premier League goal against Brighton, which proved to be the spark AVFC needed to secure the three points on that occasion. In terms of a loan spell, it was a successful one.
