FA Cup last 16: contrasting draws for Arsenal and City

The FA Cup round of 16 draw paired Arsenal with Mansfield Town while Manchester City will host Newcastle United.

Arsenal handed lower-league test

The draw for the FA Cup round of 16 has given Arsenal, leaders of the Premier League, a tie against Mansfield Town from League One.

Mansfield produced one of the biggest shocks of the competition in the fourth round.

They came from behind to beat Burnley 2-1 knocking out Premier League opposition. Arsenal in contrast cruised through their tie with 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side remain in the hunt for historic quadruple and the draw gives them clear chance to progress further in the competition.

Man City draw tough home tie

Second-placed Manchester City face a far more demanding test. Pep Guardiola’s team will host Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.

The two team have already met several times this season. City knocked Newcastle out of the EFL Cup earlier this month and the FA Cup tie will be their fifth meeting of the campaign.

Unlike Arsenal, Guardiola’s side must overcome strong Premier League opposition to stay on course for silverware.

Chelsea, Liverpool & Other key ties

Elsewhere in the draw, Chelsea will travel to face Wrexham, a Championship side backed by Hollywood owners.

Wrexham have already beaten Nottingham Forest this season showing they are capable of another upset.

Liverpool were drawn against Wolverhampton Wanderers who are currently at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Lower-league side Macclesfield who eliminated holders Crystal Palace in the third round, will play Brentford.

The winner of that match will go on to face West Ham United in the last 16.
