Fabio Cannavaro moved to cool a row after videos showed American authorities searching Uzbekistan’s players around Monday’s 1-2 friendly defeat to the Netherlands.

The Uzbekistan head coach said in a social media post that there was no scandal after seeing front-page photos and inaccurate headlines, describing the checks as routine and normal.

His message explained that World Cup teams travel on dedicated buses straight to the tarmac rather than through terminals, so standard passenger screening is performed on the apron instead.

Before facing the Netherlands, Uzbekistan were screened at the stadium as scheduled, while the Dutch squad were checked at their hotel. The process applies before every match.

The post rejected any notion of disrespect or indignity, and praised the overall organisation as perfect.
