Ex-Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno scored the winning goal in the second half, keeping Como’s Champions League qualification hopes alive as the Azzurri remain two points below the top four.

“It was an important game, to continue fighting for a dream, which is more than a dream. We’ve taken on this journey with organisation and quality. We are still there with one game remaining, and we’ll see what happens,” Fabregas told Sky Sport Italia.

It was Como’s last game of the season at home, and the Azzurri were already certain of qualification to a European competition prior to the match. Therefore, they received a guard of honour from club workers prior to the match.

“I want everyone to enjoy this journey. Otherwise, why do we do this? Everyone must enjoy everything we are doing,” Fabregas said.

“It’s the most important and most special season in the club’s history. We are doing it all together.”

Como have been among the biggest spenders in Serie A across the last two years, but Fabregas insisted that the reasons for their success go beyond their investments.

“There are a lot of talks about the money we spent, but if you want, I can show you where the 15 players who have played the most this season were two years ago, how much we paid for them and how much they earn,” he replied.

“In the end, our salary cup is lower than those ahead of us. I’ve made a long way in football, I’ve had special moments in my career, and now we must enjoy every moment until the end.”

Como will end the season next week in a Lombard Derby away at Cremonese.
