Al-Ahli are set to land Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh as Leeds United plan a defensive refresh this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi Pro League club have agreed a deal with Tromso IL. Kinteh, 19, is flying to Lisbon for a medical with agent Cherno Samba. There is no ‘Here We Go’ yet, but the move is described as sealed after Al-Ahli beat European clubs to his signature, Leeds likely among them.
After securing another Premier League season, Leeds are preparing to reinforce at left-back and centre-back. A backup for Gabriel Gudmundsson is expected, and Pascal Struijk’s future is uncertain as he enters the final year of his contract following last term’s switch to a three-man defence.
The Kinteh development comes less than two weeks after it emerged Leeds had gathered information on the Tromso defender. FC Koln had a £4.3 million bid rejected in May and were tipped to raise it to £5.2 million, but the effort was in vain.
Any setback for Daniel Farke’s side is likely to be limited, as Kinteh was not expected to step straight into the starting XI. Leeds are exploring other centre-back options, including departing Union Berlin defender Diogo Leite, and are working on a move for Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP for a club-record fee.
