Liverpool Face Curtis Jones Contract Dilemma Amid Fabrizio Romano Update

Liverpool are approaching another important summer, with squad planning under Arne Slot expected to carry significant consequences for the next phase of the club’s development.

After winning the Premier League in his first season, Slot now faces decisions that could reshape the balance of his squad. Among the situations requiring clarity is Curtis Jones, whose long-term future at Anfield has become increasingly uncertain.

The 25-year-old midfielder remains one of the clearest links between Liverpool’s academy and the first team. Raised in the city and developed through the club’s system, Jones has often spoken about what representing Liverpool means to him. His ambition has never been modest either, with the midfielder previously making clear his desire to follow the path of Steven Gerrard and eventually captain the club.

That context makes the latest developments particularly significant.

Fabrizio Romano Provides Curtis Jones Update

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has now addressed the situation directly, outlining that Jones’ contract position is becoming one to monitor closely.

Romano said: “Curtis Jones is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer of 2027.”

“At the moment, to my understanding, there is no agreement to sign a new contract.”

“At the moment, everything is on total standby between Curtis Jones, his camp and Liverpool.”

“So, be careful with this situation, because several clubs are tracking Curtis Jones.”

For Liverpool, the timing matters. Jones will have two years remaining on his deal this summer, meaning the club must decide whether to accelerate contract talks, offer clearer assurances over his role, or consider serious interest while his value remains protected.

Inter Milan Interest Remains Significant

Inter Milan are understood to remain one of the clubs most attentive to Jones’ situation. A January move was reportedly discussed, with a loan structure including a €40 million purchase option said to have been agreed before Liverpool blocked any senior departures during the winter window.

Romano added: “He’s absolutely a name to keep in mind for an Inter side that is heading into a summer of change in midfield, depending on what happens with players like Mkhitaryan, Frattesi, and others.”

Premier League clubs are also monitoring developments, which could create a competitive market if Liverpool decide to listen to offers.

Liverpool Role Under Arne Slot Needs Clarity

Jones has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing two assists. However, only 10 of those outings have come as Premier League starts, which represents a notable change from the previous campaign, when he made 46 appearances during Liverpool’s title winning season.

His preference is believed to be staying at Liverpool, provided there is a pathway to more regular involvement under Slot. Importantly, Jones did not push to leave in January, despite the Inter Milan option being available.

Liverpool’s valuation is expected to sit at no less than €35 million, with his wider market value estimated around €40 million. That figure may become harder to command if he enters the final year of his contract without a renewal.

Slot Acknowledges Contract Situation

Slot has already addressed the matter publicly, saying: “The moment we have any news, we share it over here. But I am aware, the club is aware and he is aware of the fact he has only one-and-a-half years left.”

That was a careful answer, but it confirmed the reality. Liverpool, Curtis Jones and his representatives all know this situation requires movement.

For now, there is no agreement and no immediate resolution. Unless talks progress, Liverpool may soon face a difficult call on one of their own.
