Fabrizio Romano has said Manchester United have no intention of selling Amad Diallo this summer, adding that the winger’s camp were informed in June and that the club want to keep and trust him.

That stance leaves a switch to St James’ Park appearing remote after surprise links to Newcastle United.

Diallo, 24, remains hugely popular on Wearside after a standout loan at Sunderland in 2022-23 under Tony Mowbray. He scored 14 goals in all competitions as the Black Cats reached the Championship play-offs.

Supporters have closely followed his progress since returning to Manchester, where he has gradually become a regular first-team option.

The idea of him joining Newcastle would be a major shock to many Sunderland fans given the strong bond formed during that loan.

For now, the indication is that United intend to keep the winger, a position already relayed to his representatives.
