Fabrizio Romano says Milan never tried to sign António Silva, adding that Benfica have been negotiating a new contract with the defender for weeks.
Recent reports had suggested a verbal agreement between Silva and Milan, coached by Ruben Amorim, on a deal through 2031, with only agreement between the clubs outstanding. He added that nothing was reached or even discussed on personal terms.
"Will I renew with Benfica? I do not know, I still do not know. The club made me an offer in the final week of the season, before the Estoril match," he told JOliveira10.
Silva, 22, is under contract until June 2027 and has a 100 million euros release clause. Talks over an extension are continuing, but no definitive agreement has been reached.
In 2025/26 he made 41 appearances for Benfica, 25 in the Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, one in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. He logged 3,118 minutes, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
