Manchester City’s agreement with AC Milan for Tijjani Reijnders will begin with an initial €57 million transfer fee, with the rest in potential add-ons, it has been revealed.

Pep Guardiola is closing in on the signing of the 26-year-old Italy international after Manchester City reached a full agreement with AC Milan for Reijnders, who is believed to have agreed personal terms ahead of a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Reijnders was Manchester City’s leading candidate to bolster in the number eight position and is expected to be the first of four to five summer signings at the Etihad Stadium, with incoming sporting director Hugo Viana expected to heavily back Guardiola as he takes over from Txiki Begiristain.

City remain in negotiations to sign Lyon’s Rayan Cherki and have agreed a deal with Wolves for full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri after chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak outlined the club’s ambitions of completing their major transfer business in time for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Manchester City have parted ways with Kevin De Bruyne and are also expecting record signing Jack Grealish to leave this summer, with the 29-year-old Englishman reportedly left out of Guardiola’s squad to travel to the United States for the Club World Cup.

After withdrawing interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, who has agreed to join newly-crowned English champions Liverpool, Manchester City’s pursuit of Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White also hangs in the balance amidst their ongoing talks for Cherki and Reijnders.

Reijnders is expected to seal a move to the Etihad Stadium in the following week ahead of a scheduled medical in Manchester, representing the first major addition to City’s midfield after the departure of De Bruyne, who has reportedly agreed a two-year move to Napoli.

Manchester City have seen an opening bid worth €23 million rejected for Cherki and after agreeing a deal for Ait-Nouri, it now seems a matter of time before the pair follow Reijnders through the door to join forces with Guardiola.

According to transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, the agreement between Manchester City and AC Milan concerning Tijjani Reijnders will be worth an initial €57 million as a fixed fee with further add-ons.

Beyond the initial guaranteed fee for the Italian club, it is revealed that the deal could then increase to €65 million with ‘easy’ add-ons, and possibly even extend further to €70 million with ‘difficult’ add-ons.

Manchester City have until June 10 to complete and register new signings in time for the Club World Cup – which begins in mid-June – and Guardiola is now highly likely to have Reijnders, Cherki and Ait-Nouri available for the jet to the United States in mid June.

Viana is spearheading Manchester City’s transfer activity and after a sub-standard 2024-25 season where the Blues failed to meet their own incredible standards set over the years, Guardiola and co will be hungrier than ever to prove their doubters wrong and challenge on all fronts next term.
